The Cookie Diet

What better way to lose weight than to eat cookies! These aren't the cookies you would get from your mom, but they do taste good and they are good for you.

The Cookie Diet was originally developed by Dr. Siegal, a Miami obesity physician, that developed a diet cookie in 1975 to help his patients lose weight. Since then several other cookie diets have been developed including the popular Hollywood Cookie Diet and the Smart for Life Cookie Diet.

When you are on the Cookie Diet, the only decisions that you have to make is what flavor of cookie to eat and what you are going to have for dinner. It is an easy diet because you don't have to make any decisions.

The diet cookies contain contain fiber, select amino acids to suppress your hunger, and other ingredients that your body digests slowly. This gives your body the feeling of being full. Depending on the cookie diet, eating 4-6 cookies a day will provide you with about 500 calories.

The dinners are very easy. Vegetables and a lean protein or a salad and frozen dinner. The dinners range from 300 to 1,000 calories, which gives you a combined diet of 800 to 1,500 calories per day.

If you follow an 800 calorie a day diet, you are sure to lose weight. Remember that any low calorie diet under 1,200 calories requires medical supervision. The concern with low calorie diets, is that they lack adequate nutrition that your body needs. A majority of the low calorie cookie diets recommend that you take a daily multivitamin to provide the nutrition.

Dr. Seigal has stated that his patients have no problems staying with the 800 calorie cookie diet and usually lose about 15 pounds per month. He has said that if you are able to control your cravings, and stick to the 800 calories per day, that anyone will lose weight.

Although the cookie diets can vary, most are the same in that you replace eating breakfast, lunch and snacks by eating diet cookies. The cookies range from 90 to 150 calories each and come in a wide variety of flavors and don't require refrigeration. You can then eat a low calorie meal for dinner.

You should drink plenty (about 8 glasses a day) of no-calorie liquids like water or tea. No alcohol, candy, fruits, dairy or other foods are recommended.

The Cookie Diet is basically a meal replacement diet that works great for some people. Some people have a difficult time to decide what they can and cannot eat. The Cookie Diet takes away that decision because you have the diet cookies to eat and they taste good.

Experts do recommend that when you are on the Cookie Diet, to eat a well balanced dinner that does include lean protein, vegetables, fruit, whole grain, and low-fat dairy products. In order to stay on the diet, you will need to count calories closely.

You should also check the nutrition label on the diet cookies because they can vary greatly between diet cookie plans. Also remember, that if you are on a low calorie diet cookie plan, that you should be receiving medical guidance.

As with any weight loss program, you should also incorporate an exercise program to help keep yourself activity and to keep your muscles strong.
